Thanks Kid for Finding Me Some Theta Moms

When your children meet other children, soon they begin to talk more and more about these “new” friends.

You begin to hear their names all over the house…

Slowly, you begin to meet the moms of these children and the more you chat with these moms, you find yourself liking them as much as your child likes their new friends.

So what happens when your kids finally get together for a play-date?

 Playdate

Theta Moms talk endlessly and of course, drink some wine!

I wanted to post this because these two fabulous ladies to my left are the first real moms that I have met and had over to my home, thanks to my son.

I never knew meeting people through my own child would be this successful!

So here’s to my kid for finding me some totally awesome mommy dates and in the process, giving me a well deserved Theta Mom Time Out!

I won’t be holding Time Out for Theta Mom Thursday again until the New Year. Although I plan on taking an hour for myself, it will be quite hectic as the holiday approaches. So once again, I’ll remind you in January to join us and look forward to a New Year of Time Out for Theta Mom Thursdays!

Also, the Handbag Heaven giveaway ends tonight so get your last entries in here.

And if I haven’t been to your blog recently, it’s because I just joined Facebook and all of you FB freaks know how time consuming it can be, especially when you first join. So I plan to get around to your blogs shortly, I miss you guys! So (shameless plug) if you want to become a fan of Theta Mom on FB, I would love that! You can do so here

Hopefully this whole FB thing won’t become like a Twitter addiction…although I’m beginning to wonder what I got myself into…

It’s a Very Merry SITSmas!

The lovely ladies over at SITS came up with this fabulous idea to share a favorite holiday photo and include a few words about it as well as our hopes for 2010. All with the chance to link up and meet some other fellow SITS girls and read their SITSmas cards. Love that!

One of my favorite holiday photos of 2009:

 E&Santa

My son was given the amazing opportunity to not only meet Santa himself, but two of the famous Radio City Rockettes last month! If you missed that post, you can read the full story here. Just the simplicity of watching my son as he sat on Santa’s lap during his very first visit to NYC was truly a wonderful memory.

As for my hopes in the New Year? Well, that’s always pretty easy for me.

I just want some bread, salt and wine.

Taken from one of my favorite movies It’s a Wonderful Life allow me to share why with you. Well, come a little closer and I’ll whisper in your ear…

 Chrismtmas#2

Bread–so that this house may never know hunger.
Salt–that life may always have flavor.
Wine–that joy and prosperity may reign forever.

Along with good health, please pass me the bread, salt, and wine in 2010.

Carrie Bradshaw Would Be a Theta Mom

I have been a fan of Sex and the City since the very beginning and what immediately drew me into this series was the show’s narration. Carrie Bradshaw’s musings about relationships, dating, and New York City were always so emotional and sensitive. At times, she was a bit dramatic and somewhat over-analytic, but to me, this narration was always authentic.

She shared moments explicitly and expressed exactly what she was thinking and feeling, even when the truth hurt. Although she may have appeared jealous, clingy, or insecure at various points throughout the show, she truly communicated real and raw emotions as she was experiencing life and relationships.

Isn’t this exactly what we experience as Theta Moms? We admit the fact that this motherhood gig isn’t always glamorous and easy. We narrate our own stories with raw emotion and sensitivity. Don’t we sometimes over-analyze the situation, especially when it comes to our children? Don’t we feel sometimes insecure that the job we are doing may not be enough? Don’t we sometimes second-guess ourselves in the process? Isn’t this true authenticity?

Although her bank account doesn’t reflect the majority of Theta Moms, if Carrie Bradshaw was really pregnant, she would probably wear the most adorable, chic, and trendy maternity clothes similar to this look.

Regardless of her style, the moment she becomes a mother, I picture Carrie changing diapers for the first time and recognizing the not so glamorous aspect of motherhood.

I imagine her agonizing over the reality of sleepless nights and freaking out about her postpartum figure.

As a result of having a baby, I envision the description of her post-partum sex life, or lack thereof.

I can see her shopping at Barneys, unable to purchase the latest Jimmy Choo heels because her newborn could really use the money more.

I imagine her disappointment when she must decline attending a premier event because her baby suddenly became ill.

I predict that she will be torn between work and home, desperately trying to find a balance to make it all work…

But I also envision Carrie trying to find the right words to share the most amazing experience she’s ever encountered, attempting to describe the kind of love she’s never felt before for another human being.

I imagine Carrie dreaming of her newborn and finding herself more centered as a mother, allowing her life to be more about her baby than her own.

I see her making sacrifices, learning from her mistakes and demonstrating the way her life has been forever changed…for the better.

Carrie Bradshaw would be a Theta Mom.

So if she ever becomes pregnant, maybe I should congratulate her…and then welcome her to the club.

***This contest is now closed. Congratulations HeatherM74. An email has been sent.***

Orglamix offers brilliant color that will revolutionize the way you think about your eye makeup. It glimmers. It shines. It provides stunning effects. Orglamix is best known for “its ultra long-lasting eye-shadows that truly reinvent color intensity.” And I mean intensity ladies.

I love makeup, I always have. It makes me feel good when I know that I look good. And when I find a product that really shimmers, I’m hooked. I like to have fun with makeup and try new colors, all kind of colors. Orglamix provides that special “something” that gives me that extra sparkle. I had the pleasure of working with the lovely Cheri to review Orglamix for myself. Although her shop offers an array of different shadows to choose from, I tried the Pure Mineral Eye Color in Ambre, Bermuda, and Freesia. With each color that I wore I had a new and distinct look. The Pure Mineral Eye Colors gave my eyes a vibrant shine all day.

As a busy Theta Mom of two children, sometimes I feel like I leave the house in the morning looking somewhat “tired.” Once I apply my makeup and add some Pure Mineral Eye Color, I instantly look energized. The shadows make me feel glamorous and they are the perfect addition to any outfit.

I know many Theta Mom readers are Orglamix fans, so you must check out the new Holiday Cheer colors at her shop. They will totally get you in the mood as you plan your holiday outfit and choose one of these shadows as the perfect accessory! I have to admit, I am now want Winter Wonderland! Time Out for Theta Mom Thursday is Back in Action!

It’s Time Out for Theta Mom Thursday! For those of you visiting for the first time, the goal is to grab one hour of time within one week to do whatever you want…without the kids. It’s such an amazing proposition, I know! On Thursdays, post how you spent your “time out” (add my button from the right side bar or link to me) and be sure to stop here to link up and meet other Theta Moms to see how they spent their time out!

Between my move to WP, Thanksgiving, and now the holiday rush, saying it’s been a busy time would be an understatement. We are already into December and it will be a total blur until January. I’m so glad these “time outs” will keep me focused to ensure that I take at least one hour for myself between the baking, shopping, cooking, wrapping, working, cleaning, blogging, and well, you get the idea…

The week before Thanksgiving I went to dinner with two of my really good girlfriends. I originally met these two fabulous ladies about ten years ago when I began my career as an elementary school teacher. Our classrooms were actually all next to each other in the same hallway. When we met, we instantly became friends. We all began teaching right out of college, so we literally “grew up” together. When we were single, we hit the bars together. When we were married, we went out as couples together. And then one by one, we each started to have children of our own.

When we got together for dinner recently, we were drinking some wine and reminiscing about the life I briefly described; we talked about the women we were back then and how our lives, especially as mothers, are so different now. Ten years ago, we were just a bunch of kids out of college trying to earn a living and having a blast doing it. The ONLY question on our mind at the time was, “What bar are we going to go to for happy hour???”  Now that we are smack in the middle of raising our own kids, paying a mortgage and living as “real” adults do, trying to get to happy hour for one drink is such a challenge!

Regardless, these are the kind of girlfriends that I won’t see for months but when I get together with them, it’s like I just saw them yesterday. Our conversations could go on for days and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Together, we have a real sisterhood that is hard to find…

It felt so good to sip some red wine, chow down on some amazing Italian food and talk endlessly for hours with two really good friends. So my time out was a major success; good company, good food and good wine…and of course, a trip down memory lane. Although it is quite a challenge, we agreed to at least try to do this dinner thing once a month. It truly is the perfect time out for this Theta Mom.

How did you spend your one hour? If you are participating in Theta Mom Thursday, link up and share your time out with other Theta Moms!
