Featured TMC Blogger: Real Life with Kids

TMC welcomes Cate, author of the blog Real Life with Kids. She is another blogger I found through this very fabulous community and once you visit and tweet with Cate, you will see how much she loves blogging! I have gotten to know her better through many conversations (especially on Twitter) so be sure to check her out! Here is how she describes her blog in her own words:

“Hi, I’m Cate and I’ve been a mom for almost 13 years.  I started my blog Real Life with Kids because I wanted a place to tell my stories.  I really started it just to tell the funny ones because (I know you’ll be shocked) the embellishments I like to add to my stories (not to mention the hand gestures) are not easily contained within Twitter and Facebook limits.

Real Life with Kids started off in February of this year and I have been humbled and amazed by the gracious, beautiful, snarky, intelligent, and hilarious women I have met in the blogging community.  Meeting and getting to know such incredible women helped inspire me to make a career change that I may not have ever made otherwise.  In April I took the leap and applied for a position on the buying team at my company, Hayneedle. This, after having spent the previous 4+ years building the recruiting program for the online retailer.

I have 3 kiddos – Itchy, my almost 13 year old daughter, Scratchy, my 11 year old son, and Trouble, my 7 year old baby boy.  In 1996 I married the man of my dreams and then convinced him to move to Nebraska to become a Husker.  He now owns more Husker clothing than I have ever had personally in my entire life.  We also have 2 golden doodles, Catie & Cooper and they show up occasionally on my blog.

My tagline over at RLWK is “Real Life is funny. And messy. And frustrating. And delicious.”  Life with kids has so many flavors – kind of like “Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans” and you never know which ones the day is going to bring.  Fortunately, it’s usually a combination of dirt, bubblegum, pencil eraser, and cheesecake.  My goal with my blog (and I’ll admit it is still evolving) is to share those flavors in my stories and to hear about yours.”

Featured TMC Blogger: Wonder, Friend

TMC welcomes Missy, author of the blog Wonder, Friend. Missy is another one of those bloggers that started out on this journey and one of the very first communities she joined was TMC. {Smart girl} She is such an active member of this space and she is also an amazing supporter of Theta Mom! I enjoy her writing style and I like how she shares her perspective on specific topics and then asks readers to respond with “wonders” of their own. Here is how she describes her blog in her own words:

“I started blogging publicly about six months ago as a way to practice writing. I thought if I went public, I would be more apt to write than if I remained in hiding. Thanks to Wonder, Friend I am not only writing more than I was before, but I am also making some great connections with other bloggers. The relationships are a huge bonus that I never anticipated. The phenomenon of blogging is hard to explain to the non-bloggers in my life. Before Wonder, Friend I never would have believed that this community existed. I used to think blogging was for tech nerds only. Wrong. I’ve never been so happy to be wrong.

Wonder, Friend was conceived as a place where I could write about life’s questions, big and small. Then we (you, me, the internet) could discuss amongst ourselves. The site is evolving a bit. Stuff tends to do that. From time-to-time you’ll see things there that don’t necessarily fall under the category of wonderings. No matter how the post is categorized, I typically pose a question at the end of each post. I wonder…and ask you to share your thoughts.

I have two precious boys, ages four years and 16 months, so there’s definitely mommy blogging. I’m an old married lady, so there’s some relationship blogging. Every once in a while I can be funny, so there’s a touch of humor. I love creative writing, so there’s some of that. When I can, I enjoy participating in memes and challenges, so periodically you’ll see those kinds of posts. That’s the beauty of blogging: there’s room for growth and change.

I am honored to be Theta Mom’s Featured Blogger this week. Heather has created a fantastic community, and it was the first one I joined when I started this adventure in blogging. It’s a thrill to be featured!”

Featured TMC Blogger: A Belle, a Bean & a Chicago Dog

TMC welcomes Liz, author of the blog A Belle, a Bean & a Chicago Dog. Liz joined TMC when it first launched and ever since then she has been such an active supporter of Theta Mom! She writes about the ups and downs of motherhood, including the journey she has been on with her family while moving numerous times in the last few years. Be sure to check her out! Here is how she describes her blog in her own words:

header 125x125

“Like so many bloggers I’ve met, I started out blogging for family and friends before I “went public.” My husband and I seem to have a penchant for relocation, as we moved out of Chicago in June 2003 and have lived in 3 places since.  Starting a blog was a way to keep everyone “back home” involved in our lives.

I feel very lucky to have chosen the name that I did back when I first started blogging.  The name is based on the birth locations of my 3 “kids” – Jack was our first “baby” and we had him while we still lived in Chicago. My mom started calling Kate her “Memphis Belle” from the time she was an infant, so it came naturally that Maddie would be our Boston Baked Bean.

Being a stay-at-home mom comes with its own set of challenges, particularly when you live states away from your family.  Blogging has allowed me to “use my brain” in ways that I haven’t since starting this mom gig, and has given me the opportunity to connect and share with other women across the globe.

March 2010 is when it all changed for me; March 2010 is when I joined my first blogging community!

In the last 6 months I’ve gained an entire technological & social media education as well as really great friends!  I’m truly so grateful for this bloggy experience and the relationships it has brought.”

Featured TMC Blogger: BORED Mommy

TMC welcomes Maria from BORED Mommy. I originally found Maria on Twitter when I first began blogging and she is absolutely one of my favorite tweeps! Shortly thereafter, we found ourselves blogging together and she has been nothing but supportive of Theta Mom and this community. I even had the pleasure of meeting her in real life last month at BlogHer. She is one fabulous mom and blogger, so be sure to show her some love!

Here is how Maria describes her blog in her own words:

“My name is Maria, I’m Canadian and I’ve been blogging as BORED Mommy for about 15 months now. I started blogging as a way to amuse myself really, while also documenting some special moments and memories involving my little people (my 6 year old son and 3 year old daughter). I’m sarcastic, and self-deprecating in my writing (and in life), and if you’re looking for someone political, or controversial, you should probably keep looking. I’m a fan of a good list, a great book and the perfect cardigan. If you haven’t read a post of mine that mentions Colin Firth, than you clearly haven’t read enough of my posts.

A lovely benefit to blogging has been the fabulous connections that I’ve made with other bloggers, and the feeling of finally finding my tribe of girlies that I can relate to, and totally adore. It has been life changing and has absolutely enriched my life in many ways.

Thank you Heather for choosing to feature me and my blog on the Theta Mom Blog!! You know how much I adore you (yup, you’re one of those girlies I admire), so I’m thrilled to be featured.”

Featured TMC Blogger: C. Mom

Today, TMC welcomes C. Mom! I met C. Mom once I launched this community. She was one of the very first bloggers to jump on board and I am so glad to have found her. She is a wonderful blogger, teacher, writer and cancer survivor. She is one hell of a strong woman and one who supports other bloggers in this crazy bloggy world so be sure to check her out!

This is how she describes her blog in her own words:

“I am a mom. I am a wife. I am a teacher. I am a cancer survivor. And I am a blogger.  Life has always been a roller coaster, a bit of a magic carpet ride. There have been downs, like being diagnosed with Hodgkin’s disease at 23, having a bone marrow transplant, getting divorced, and suffering from depression. There have also been ups, like the birth of my daughter, successfully running two marathons, and meeting & getting re-married to the love of my life.  The ups and the downs have taught me lessons, and make me who I am. Add in some emotion (ok, lots of emotion), some sarcasm, and honesty…and you get me, C.Mom.

At C.Mom, I tell the story, my happy moments, my funny moments, my emotional moments, my sad moments, even my boring moments. I have always worn my heart on my sleeve so now I wear my heart on C.Mom.
